Air purification in industrial processes is no longer a luxury, but is required by law. In addition, the use of suction systems in processes such as machining, grinding, forming, pressing, hardening, etc. is not only based on direct regulations. Rather, the concern for the integrity and safety of people in their workplaces or on machines has now become an important component of a company’s social sustainability. The equipping of industrial workplaces with suction systems – especially with low energy consumption – is already reflected in the sustainability reports of companies.

Demands for workplace ventilation: These are the sources – and suction systems are the solution

The LTA suction systems did not simply come about “just like that”. LTA has a history that is linked to the Junker Group, which is more than 60 years old and to which LTA Lufttechnik belongs. The Black Forest-based company Junker GmbH is a world-renowned manufacturer of high-precision grinding machines. This means that the DNA of LTA Lufttechnik is characterized by a deep knowledge of industrial processes and the importance, if not explosiveness, of the extraction of non-air substances.

Whether mechanical or electrostatic suction systems: LTA knows its stuff

The choice of the right extraction system should be based on a well-founded analysis. The consulting experts at LTA Lufttechnik are of course specialized in this. They know the parameters that lead to the best choice of a suction system in detail and help you, as our customer, to make the right choice with regard to the filter elements – for a system of “mechanical filters” or a system of “electrostatic filters”, for a single-station or group extraction system or perhaps even for a central extraction system, for wet processing, etc. In the end, however, you can be sure that we will recommend the suction system (wet separator/dry separator) that suits your requirements – quiet, with the highest separation efficiency and with an interior that is even washable.

Filters also play a role in preventing economic damage.

Coolants and lubricants, in particular, pose numerous hazards. These are not only direct dangers to workers, but aerosols of these and many other substances in industrial production can also settle on machines themselves, on manufactured products, or – quite simply – on floors. On the one hand, they can lead to significant economic damage, and on the other hand, they increase the risk of accidents in the workplace.

Dangers from Coolants and Lubricants if No Filter Neutralizes Them

Even if it seems unlikely: coolants and lubricants can indeed enter the human digestive tract, as larger droplets settle in the nose, trachea, and bronchi and can subsequently be swallowed.

If skin contact occurs, the mineral oils have a degreasing and drying effect, preventing the skin’s natural protective function from being fully maintained. This, in turn, leads to irritative effects such as irritation of the skin, respiratory tract, and mucous membranes. Conjunctivitis can also develop. Vapors of low-viscosity hydrocarbons even possess narcotic properties and can cause dizziness, states of agitation, and potentially euphoria.

Filtration has a significant positive impact on employee health.

Numerous ingredients in coolants and lubricants can cause allergic contact eczema. Inhaled coolant and lubricant allergens can lead to bronchial asthma in sensitized individuals. Even worse is the toxic effect of these substances, which leads to organ changes, such as nasal septum perforation due to chromium and/or lead. Carcinogenic reactions are also possible. Various epidemiological studies indicate the potential for pancreatic, intestinal, bladder, and liver cancer, as well as brain and respiratory organ tumors, from handling coolants and lubricants. Furthermore, they can have mutagenic effects; for instance, nitrosamines have proven genotoxic in numerous mutagenicity tests.
Legal Limit Values Make Filters a “Must-Have”

To minimize the consequences of airborne foreign substances in workplaces,
the legislator has introduced limit values. According to Rule 109-003 of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), the following maximum workplace limit values (AGW) apply:
